This photograph is in the médiathèque collection of Canton Valais. The link takes you to the photograph. The photograph shows the glaciers of the Arolla valley in about 1890 to 1894. This is well into the recession after the c. 1856 Little Ice Age maximum. But it shows quite nicely the maximum extent of the Lower Arolla (marked by the tress on the right hand side of the valley as seen in the picture). It also shows the marked thickness of the Tsijiore Nouve glacier, as is reflected in the Tsijiore Nouve moraines today.
