Description
The development of a hydro-electric power scheme in Valais, Switzerland has required the diversion of large amounts of glacial melt-water. The impact of these diversions of water on river channels in the Val d'Arolla and Val de Ferpècle, two subcatchments of the Val d'Hérèns, is assessed and the degree of river channel adjustment is explained using information on the present discharge and suspended sediment loads transmitted by the channels at sites upstream and downstream of the water abstraction points.
